Dr Vanita Sharma was born in England to Indian parents and raised in Slough. She read Modern History and English Literature at the University of Oxford, where she earned B.A., M.St. and D.Phil. degrees. She has taught South Asian History at the University of Oxford; at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London; and at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan. She was awarded a Scholar of Peace Fellowship by the Dalai Lama Foundation and has been involved in a number of peace initiatives between India and Pakistan. She currently works as a Communications Consultant.
Vanita’s Story
Vanita’s book tells the story of her journey across India and Pakistan to meet families devastated by the 1947 Partition which divided British India and created Pakistan. It features the stories of families from both sides who were affected by Partition, as well as the story of Vanita’s own search to learn more about her own family history.
